During our 10/10/23 Oceano Town Meeting Caltrans gave a presentation with conceptual designs from the 2022 community design meeting along with final designs for the Oceano Community Plaza Project at 17th Street & Beach Street at the Triangle Park in Downtown Oceano.
Visit below to view the presentation and drawings.
We're thrilled to present Oceano's new Directional Sign!
Located on Pier Avenue on the back wall of Old Juan's Cantina, meant to encourage beach go-ers leaving the beach to turn RIGHT onto Highway 1 to visit our Downtown Business District!
Many visitors are unaware of all of the goodies that Oceano has to offer such as: Groceries, Gas, Shops, Art, Museum, Restaurants, Theater and other great businesses!
We commissioned local artists, South Paw Sign Company of Oceano to create a sign that captured the unique vibrancy of our Downtown area and are so happy with the outcome!
Here at VACO we're dedicated to working with our community businesses and residents to celebrate & maintain the unique character of our historic seaside town & all of the wonderful qualities that make Oceano such a great place to live & work!
Sending a special thank you to the Verdin Family at Old Juan's, Sean & his team at South Paw Sign Company, & Visit Oceano-Nipomo for funding the project!
1.22.22 Sunday Funday doing yard work at the Triangle Park!
Special thanks to Board Members Jen & Linda and volunteers Mike, Clark & Joe!

A gallon of paint & volunteers were all that was needed to tame the unsightly graffiti by the Post Office on Beach Street!
On Saturday 9.4.21 we rolled up our sleeves and got to work to help tame the unsightly weeds and overgrown shrubbery on the sidewalk, curb and adjoining vacant lot on the corner of 19th Street and Front Street/Hwy 1! If you're not familiar, it's between Chacho's and Quintessa Coffee Roasters.
As one of the main corners into downtown Oceano, we hope that this will give our beautiful community a safer walking path and give a much better introduction into our main corridor, suggesting that people should slow down and take in our beautiful seaside scenery and smell that fresh ocean air!
Saturday was Part 1 of this exciting Project, stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon!
Next time you're down by Front Street, take a look and let us know what you think! Feel free to scroll through the images and take note of the Before and Afters!
In 2013 the SLO County Planning Department did extensive work with Oceano community members and developed the Revitalization Plan. This Plan took an objective look at the needs and desires for our community. VACO's main focus will be implementing these new and exciting projects and beautification efforts that will move us towards a more pedestrian focused downtown area along Hwy 1. This work has gone unfinished over the past 8 years, and, with your input, we aim to jump start the process once again!
The full Plan can be found here!
