SLOCOG- Transportation Tax

The San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) is seeking community feedback regarding a county-wide transportation funding ballot measure due to a $2.4 billion dollar shortfall in transportation funding over the next twenty-plus years. With that in mind, SLOCOG is working to place the county-wide measure on the November 2026 ballot. To achieve this, SLOCOG is scheduling presentations to seek information and feedback from county residents or asking them to fill out a survey to share their thoughts and ideas.

More information regarding this proposed transportation tax can be found below.

The County of SLO’s Pavement Management Program 2024-2028

The County has a separate list for each of the two pavement treatment types: (1) Hot Mix Asphalt Overlay and (2) Slurry seal or Microsurface treatment. The Hot Mix Asphalt Overlay involves placing a fresh 2” layer of asphalt and is typically used on roads in poor condition. The Microsurface treatment is a thin, surface wearing treatment at lower cost and is used as preventative maintenance on roads that have not yet reached poor condition.

The County’s pavement strategy is outlined below:

  1. Maintain the Good Condition roads to Good Condition.
  2. Improve the Poor Condition high- and medium-volume roads.
  3. Incrementally improve the Poor Condition low-volume roads.
